Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic candidate to join the patient safety team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire and help shape our response to and management of safety and risk.

As Head of Patient Safety and Risk you will manage the patient safety and risk agenda at UHCW and be integral in operationalising the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and Patient Safety Incident Response Plan (PSIRP).

The role requires oversight and management of all Patient Safety Incident Investigations (PSII's), thematic reviews, patient safety incident (SWARM response, risk registers and national patient safety alerts. 

You will have line management responsibility for the Patient Safety Team, Clinical Harm and Risk Manager and our Datix Team.

Main duties of the job

As we continue in our partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute we are committed to embedding UHCWi into everything we do.  This is based on lean but more importantly will be how you can deliver our aims of: Putting Patients First, Empowering Staff and Delivering Safer Care.

A core responsibility for 2024 is the operationalising of PSIRF at UHCW. This will include learning assurance capability to analyse data and identify themes.

Provide leadership and professional advice to managers and staff within the Trust on patient safety and clinical risk management.

Develop and review the Trust’s Risk Management Strategy and Policy. Implement the strategy and policy across the Trust to ensure it is embedded within the culture and owned by key clinical and non-clinical staff.

Lead large-scale, trust-wide projects related to Patient Safety & Risk as required.
