• To perform a wide range of routine and non-routine radionuclide investigations, using a gamma camera/pet-ct scanner to obtain high quality diagnostic images of the radiopharmaceutical distribution. In the absence of the Specialist Technicians undertake their imaging duties.
• To perform a wide range of routine and non-routine non-imaging investigations requiring the acquisition and analysis of samples and the use of radiation counting and monitoring equipment.
• To undertake routine and non-routine image processing and data analysis as required. Assessing the quality of images and ensure that they are of sufficient quality for the purposes intended. Presenting the images and data in a manner that facilitates efficient reporting. Altering display protocols as necessary to optimise image presentation.
• In the absence of the Specialist Technicians organise, and at all other times take part in, patient scheduling and technician workload. Adapt the schedules (several times a day) in response to unpredictable urgent requests from consultant medical staff. Ensure that a high quality patient service is maintained through the efficient use of equipment, staff and other resources.
• To undertake managerial duties of the Specialist Technicians and Nuclear Medicine Technical Manager in their absence.
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients by means of intravenous injection, orally or as a gas.
• Provide the patient with a full explanation of the investigation while adhering to all written procedures covering such administrations and including patient identification, administered radio-activity, pregnancy, breast feeding and restriction to the patient’s actions post administration.
• Liaise with scientific, medical, nursing and support staff, exchanging complex information relevant to the patient’s investigation. 
• Take blood samples in accordance with the diagnostic investigation
• Participate in duties relating to the radionuclide therapy service, providing support to clinical scientists and specialist technicians in all aspects of the therapy service.
• Work within an aseptic laboratory and undertake Radiopharmacy duties that include the elution of radionuclide generators and the manufacture of radiopharmaceuticals suitable for patient administration and quality control procedures.  
• To minimise financial costs by safe and effective use of high capital value equipment.
• Undertake the procedures required when people or the environment become contaminated with radioactive material. This includes procedures relating to the containment, decontamination and disposal of radioactive material arising from the spillage of a radiopharmaceutical source/injection or body fluid, including urine and blood, from a patient who had been administered a radiopharmaceutical.
• Take an active role in the department’s radiation protection and quality assurance programmes. Perform daily quality control tests on imaging and non-imaging equipment to ensure correct performance.
• Take an active role in the development and review of protocols and procedures, assisting with the development of new techniques and system of work.
• Participate in appropriate  research and development activities initiated by the Technical Manager, Specialist Medical Physics Technicians and Clinical Scientists.
• Regularly provide training of technical and other professional staff groups. To commonly deliver, under supervision, the training of small groups of inexperienced staff and students. To describe the technical operation of workstation hardware, software and procedures to students and non-technical personnel.
• Be aware of, and conform to the relevant legislation governing the practice of Nuclear Medicine Technology and following the safe working practices as described by local and national policy.
