Job overview

If you are interested in working in neurorehabilitation alongside a skilled and friendly speech and language therapy team, this is a great opportunity for you.

The Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit speech and language therapy team are looking for a new Assistant to assist with running rehabilitation programmes in communication and swallowing for adults with acquired brain injury.

The RNRU is a large friendly multidisciplinary team working with people with severe and complex needs, providing an intensive 'Level 1' service.  Our SLTA is an integral and valued part of the team, running sessions and assisting all the speech therapists on the team.  It is a great way to learn and gain skills in therapy and neurorehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with patients on the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU) to assess, support, maintain or improve swallowing and/or communication ability in line with the Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) on the unit.  The Therapy Assistant will prepare for and carry out individual and group treatment sessions following programmes provided by the treating speech and language therapist, and progressing individuals through their rehabilitation pathway.  They will also provide skilled support for communication, eating and drinking, as guided by the therapy team and will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to enable patients to be as independent as possible, and to achieve their rehabilitation goals.

The Assistant will also carry out general administrative and departmental duties e.g. photocopying, monitoring resources, data entry, booking appointments, cleaning equipment and tidying work areas, assisting with team timetabling alongside the therapy team.
