Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and ambitious General Practitioner to join the team of senior medical leaders in the role of Clinical Director – Primary Care & Community Services for Carmarthenshire.
Supporting the Deputy Medical Director – Primary Care and Community Services, the successful post holder will carry out responsibilities associated with Primary Care & Community including clinical governance and the provision of services.

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role will include :
- leading on clinical governance & overseeing the quality and safety of managed practices
- managing Primary Care investigations and concerns
- attending local and national meetings relating to Primary Care and the interface between primary and secondary care
- providing advice and support relating to Primary Care and Community matters
- working with key stakeholders including the Executive Team and Senior Clinicians, to develop and deliver Primary Care and Community Services
- dealing with contracting issues, to ensure that clinical services can be delivered effectively and efficiently

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Medical Degree
- Full registration with the GMC
- On the Wales Medical Performers List
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- A developed understanding of the whole system approach to health and social care
Desirable criteria
- MSc, MD or other higher qualifications
- Management qualification
- Membership of the Faculty for Medical Leaders and Managers (FMLM)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven record of management at a senior level
- Track record of leadership in a complex area of healthcare
- Well versed in the current issues facing the NHS including strategies to tackle them
- Demonstrable experience of partnership working across health and social care
- Experience of leading change management and service redesign
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of previous experience in similar role requiring similar skills and knowledge and track record of achievement
