Job overview

We are pleased to be able to offer an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician to join our Mandatory and Essential Skills Training team. We are looking for a registered clinical professional who is passionate about the development of others and has an interest in the design and delivery of clinical skills training. While it would beneficial, this role does not require a background in education as you will be working with an established team who would benefit from your clinical experience and understanding of learning in the workplace.

You should have experience with physiological assessment and related clinical skills in a community or acute setting and be able to support the workforce in achieving proficiencies in practice. This exciting role also has the potential to get involved in the development of innovative simulated learning relating to community practice and trialling emerging learning technologies.

A good candidate will have a strong clinical background that includes experience of assessing competence in clinical settings. They will demonstrate the ability to engage, support, motivate and lead others to deliver high quality care.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead on provision of comprehensive competency-based programmes of multi-disciplinary staff development relating to essential clinical skills for physical health across diverse service within the Trust, including the design, planning, delivery and quality assurance of training.
  • Collaborate on design and delivery of mandatory training relating to resuscitation and the deteriorating patient, and deputise for Trust Resuscitation Lead as needed.
  • To ensure review of implementation and effectiveness of development programmes in addressing specific identified learning or clinical needs.
  • To promote meaningful staff engagement in work-based learning opportunities.
  • Provide managerial and clinical leadership in area of responsibility.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Lead and manage allocated projects as part of the overall mandatory and essential skills training strategy providing a high quality, responsive service to meet the needs of the workforce
  2. Lead on implementation plans for the delivery of training and development to all relevant staff relating to essential clinical skills in physical health
  3. Lead on design and delivery of essential training relating to venepuncture, injections, physiological observations, and central venous access devices.
  4. Identify training needs of staff and lead on design and delivery/commissioning of training, using internal and external training resources, to meet identified need, to be delivered within budget and timescale, in accordance with agreed strategy
  5. Lead on review and update of existing training programmes within remit to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of the services
  6. Lead on implementation of national and organisational clinical competencies to ensure that both modern design and delivery models are used, and that impact on practice post-delivery can be evidenced
  7. Collaborate on design and delivery of mandatory training relating to resuscitation and the deteriorating patient, and deputise for Trust Resuscitation Lead as needed.
  8. Maintain an overview of the use of technology enhanced learning tools in relevant training programmes and lead on maintenance of course content presented in a virtual learning environment in collaboration with the Technology Enhanced Learning team.
  9. Lead on design and delivery of essential training relating to venepuncture, injections, physiological observations, and central venous access devices
  10. Ensure appropriate organisation of training venues and logistics to achieve efficient training attendance and delivery
  11. To lead the ongoing development and management of quality assurance of training for essential clinical skills in physical health
  12. Provide consultation and guidance to managers, clinical leads and other stakeholders in relation to the meeting the training needs of staff in the context of evolving service delivery.
  13. To lead in the collaboration and negotiation with Service Managers and other stakeholders internal and external to ensure delivery, methodology and implementation of the training programme meets service needs
  14. Ensure availability of specialist learning and development advice, support and consultation to the Trust
  15. To lead in the development potential and income generation to sustain the development and improvement of the business function
  16. To provide clinical leadership in area of clinical expertise
  17. To actively assist in the education and practical development of staff at every opportunity, through formal and informal teaching
  18. To prepare training activity reports and presentations for strategic management groups and stakeholders as required
  19. To maintain an overview of current systemwide service delivery, workforce needs and training provision, and identify its scope, coverage, effectiveness, and relationship with CPFT training strategy
  20. To ensure that all aspects of the training and development programme have equality diversity and inclusion central to approach
  21. To ensure that design and delivery is co-produced where possible with people that use CPFT services and their carers
  22. Represent the Trust in local and national network events to maintain and develop expert level of knowledge in this speciality
  23. Develop and maintain the clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide clinically effective, holistic, evidence-based training
  24. Implementation and review of competency frameworks within subject field
  25. Work collaboratively and in partnership with HR colleagues, CPFT managers, CPFT staff, Professional Leads including medical, partner universities, the Local Authorities and Health Education East of England to deliver an integrated multi-disciplinary education offering and collaborative learning

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level with recognised relevant professional qualification in healthcare
  • Current registration with relevant professional body
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education or similar or willingness to work towards
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of management/leadership development
  • Post graduate qualification in relevant field

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable post registration experience in relevant clinical practice
  • Proven experience assessing others in clinical or simulated settings
  • Designing and delivering training using a competency based approach to assessment
  • Demonstrable experience in risk assessment and management
Desirable criteria
  • Working in the NHS context
  • Post registration experience across a range of healthcare settings including both inpatient and community
  • Delivering clinical and national audits
  • Creating and applying policies and procedures to improve practice
  • Proven experience in a management/leadership role
