Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pharmacy Technician Higher Level to join our developing Medicine Optimisation team. We provide high quality support to our patients and are looking for a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking Pharmacy Technician. This post offers you the opportunity to progress your career in an innovative and supportive environment.

The successful applicant will join our friendly team of assistants, technicians and pharmacists to work primarily with our unscheduled care services. As part of an integrated role, the post holder will work flexibly to support ward-based pharmacy medicine optimisation services, dispensary support and ward services.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Undertake ward-based dispensing to facilitate discharge from hospital
  • Ensure medicines are in the right place at the right time
  • Take drug histories and perform medicines reconciliation
  • Counselling patients on use of medicines
  • Educate nursing staff with regards to medicine matters on the ward
  • Train junior members of the Pharmacy Department

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (NVQ) or equivalent qualification
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of Technical pharmacy service delivery post qualification acquired through NVQ3 in Pharmacy Services or BTEC equivalent level qualification plus specialist training and experience to degree or equivalent level.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a similar role

  • Numeracy skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Good team working skills
  • Demonstrable attention to detail
  • Computer literate

Knowledge

Essential criteria
