Senior Medical Secretary - Dermatology

Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Senior Medical Secretary to join the Dermatology service.

The post is primarily based in the Dermatology service at St Lukes Hospital but the post holder may at times be expected to provide cross cover to the other secretarial teams in the directorate which covers both Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s hospital site.

For the Band 4 Medical Secretary role you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including; diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required by the Medical Team.

You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision and to tight deadlines and under pressure. 

You will be responsible for training and supervision of secretaries and trainees within the team.  You must be a team player able to manage busy workloads.

Main duties of the job

IT skills are essential including knowledge of Microsoft packages.  You should have a secretarial/administrative background including dealing with the general public on a face to face basis and by telephone often around sensitive issues.

A high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels is essential to this post along with a strong team ethic; you must have enthusiasm, motivation and demonstrate pride in your work. A good knowledge of the NHS would be also be advantageous.

  • Previous Medical Secretarial Experience
  • Experience in developing and implementing administrative systems, processes and procedures
  • Experience of dealing with people at all levels in a variety of situations, some of which could be sensitive, distressing or emotional
  • Line Management/supervisory experience including recruitment, appraisal, etc
