Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic Principal Family and Systemic Psychotherapist to join our Specialist Sussex-Wide Family Eating Disorder Service (SFEDS). SFEDS works with young people aged 10-17 with Anorexia Nervosa/ Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa and their families, and supports recovery through Evidence Based Interventions such as Maudsley Family Therapy models, group work, and E-CBT. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality evidenced based treatment in accordance with NICE Guidelines and National Access and Waiting Time Standards.

You will be joining a service of highly skilled and experienced Family and Systemic Psychotherapists, Psychiatry, Paediatrician, Clinical Psychology and Assistant Psychologists, Nurses, Support Workers, Dietitian, and Social Workers with support from an outstanding administration team. Our team is responsible for covering all of Sussex, currently based at Crawley Down Health Centre.

The current post-holder is retiring and so we are recruiting a Principal Family and Systemic Psychotherapist

Main duties of the job

The role will entail being a core member of the leadership team contributing to service development as well as offering assessments and holding a complex caseload. The role will work closely with the Clinical Service Manager.

To work as a member of Sussex Family Eating Disorder Service; providing a high quality, specialist applied systemic family therapy service to clients, their families or carers, where there are highly complex presentations. In addition to be responsible for the supervision and governance of a defined group of systemic family therapists in the specified service and to support systemic practice within the team and other agencies through consultation, supervision, formulation and training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS

In order to be a successful Principal Family and Systemic Psychotherapist in our team you will be:

  • A qualified and experienced Family and Systemic Therapist
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Experience within an eating disorders team

SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager. You are required to work on site a minimum of 60% of your contracted hours.

Part-time hours can be considered – Minimum 22.5 hrs per week.

MAIN DUTIES

  • To work as a senior member of Sussex Family Eating Disorder Service; providing a high quality, specialist applied systemic family therapy service to clients, their families or carers, where there are highly complex presentations.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and governance of a defined group of systemic family therapists in the specified service and to support systemic practice within the team and other agencies through consultation, supervision, formulation and training.
  • To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the area served by the team/service
  • To work alongside other members of the leadership team to develop and promote best practice within allocated resources and to guide the team around any future developments related to both SFEDS and wider CAMHS

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • An approved post graduate/Masters level qualification (or equivalent) in a recognised psychological therapy , leading to recognised professional accreditation in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT or UKCP)
  • Post-qualification training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Professionally registered as a psychological therapist with relevant registration body e.g. Health and Care Professions Council

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with specified client group
  • Well developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the relevant registration body

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively with clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management
  • Skills in clinical project management, resource, allocation and service development
  • Experience of managing complex and conflicting demands and deadlines
