Job overview

Service Owners provide a vital function to frontline clinical staff across the organisation, ensuring that digital solution(s) are fit for purpose, maintained and developed throughout their lifecycle. The post holder will be the technical lead for a suite of new infection control systems including ICNet Infection Prevention, ICNet Surveillance, ICNet Pharmacy and Outbreak Manager.

In collaboration with the Director of Infection Prevention & Control, Infection Control Matron and several other senior stakeholders, this post will be pivotal to the ongoing adoption, maintenance and development of the ICNet application suite. The post holder will support senior stakeholders in defining and implementing the long-term product vision, opening feedback channels and leading stakeholder design groups to design and build innovative solutions and to enhance system integration.

This post will be at the forefront of ensuring the smooth and efficient implementation of developments related to these business-critical tools and will be a driving force for continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support frontline teams, senior stakeholders and the Director of Infection Prevention & Control in relation to ICNet:

  • Monitor the Trust’s key suppliers’ roadmaps and understand the effects of changes, on the Trust
  • Facilitate the process to define and maintain clinical application integration within and across applications
  • Ensure the smooth integration of new technology into the current architecture of the Trust
  • Ensure new solutions provide a robust foundation for daily operations and the ability to support future developments
  • Support high level system validation processes and provides guidelines for targeted implementation and system testing
  • Fulfilling user requirements by the production of high-level designs for solutions and systems for all clinical and non-clinical systems.
  • Supports the development of systems strategy and application design
  • Regularly review the working issues of key clinical and clerical staff in the Trusts
  • Ensure the delivery of the appropriate business solutions, including use case definition and requirements, functional and architectural designs
  • Contribute to the work of Business Solutions, providing expert advice and contributing to the production of quality artefacts and outputs of the team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will support the EPR Manager and serve as the Service Owner of a related range of Information Technology systems, providing system, process, and problem resolution expertise across applications and interfaces.
  • Evaluate and document the Trust’s operational processes, including analysis and proposed revisions to optimise current processes to achieve the maximum realisation of benefits to the Trust.
  • Assist with the design and documentation of system functional requirements, the development of deliverables, custom development efforts and project-based planning documents.
  • Work with Trust staff, partners and vendors to evaluate, develop and implement solutions, including both packaged system solutions and custom development applications.
  • Assure quality of information through business case and application-level testing; validates test results to business needs and benefits.
  • Work with Trust staff, partners and vendors to deploy applications.
  • Design and document system level, operations level and end user level procedures to support business applications.
  • Provide ongoing troubleshooting, support and maintenance of product applications.
  • Drive innovation and development of a related range of Information Technology systems across the Trust.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Possess a degree including courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, or systems engineering OR has acquired skills and knowledge via an extensive portfolio of practical experience
Desirable criteria
  • ITIL v3/4 Foundation

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Have experience of realising business benefits derived from project deliverables
  • Have experience in project management techniques, ideally holding a recognised project management qualification
  • Have experience in applying service management techniques
  • Hands on clinical applications management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Structures and functions
  • Knowledge of NHS Procurement Standards
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
