Job overview

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Disclosures Team based at either St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne or, Carleton Clinic in Cumbria as a Band 3 Disclosures Officer. This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours a week).

Applications are invited from a suitably qualified and experienced person to join our busy and dynamic Team. The post holder will ideally have relevant Data Protection Act experience, experience of working as a member of a very busy admin team, be flexible and friendly in their demeanour, hold a high standard of IT skills and knowledge and usage of RiO.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to acknowledge receipt of requests, collate the required information, identify third party information and/or any contentious information, liaise with the appropriate healthcare professionals and requestor and prepare the records for disclosure including any redaction of information as directed by the appropriate healthcare professional. In addition to facilitating the disclosure process, the post holder will provide support to Trust employees of all levels, service users, careers, and external organisations regarding queries around confidentiality and information sharing. 

The post holder will also provide cross cover as needed to the Records Department.

It is essential that the post holder demonstrates an eye for detail, has excellent interpersonal skills and practical administrative experience.

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • Background in Administration, Business, Law, Health or Social Work or 2 years in an office environment
  • RSA II or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 3 in administration or equivalent experience

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS environment
  • Knowledge of the DPA, GDPR, AHR, FOIA
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of multi agency/professional working
  • Experience of working of the RiO information system, Safeguard, PDT, NTWPI and Health Records

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Excellent presentation skills both written and verbal
  • Information technology skills including email, internet, spreadsheets, database
