Are you looking for a career opportunity within Early Years as a Nursery Manager ? 

Appletree Day Nursery is looking for an enthusiastic, self motivated, team member and dedicated person to manage the nursery and team.  The nursery has been established for 40 years, providing care and education young  children (3mths-5yrs) in the local area and employees of the NHS. The setting offers a variety of learning opportunities (indoor and outdoors) for both the children and team members.  

This is a 37.5hour contact per week working at the nursery with possible opportunity  discussed  format at interview.

To comply with registration requirements within budgetary constraints to provide a happy, safe and secure environment for a range of children of differing abilities between the ages of 3 month to 5 years.  This is achieved through supporting, engaging and coaching the team in all area to include Deputy nursery managers, group leaders, nursery partitioners, catering team, students/apprentices and volunteers.  

You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the 56 place nursery, meeting the Ofsted requirements, Trust requirements, Health and safety and legal requirements. 

The welfare of the children is paramount and all safeguarding must be adhere to at all times.  

You will promote and engage in best practice to deliver an outstanding service for all.  This will include multi-agency working when required and ensuring the well-being and general happiness of all children and practitioners/employees/students/volunteers through the implementation and review of policies and procedures.

  • To be responsible for all budgetary matters, both income and expenditure to ensure end of year balance. Also to liaise with Finance and Payroll in regards to these matters.  To raise all invoices, including subsidies, for all clients (NHS and External) ensuring that payment is made on time.
  • To monitor and develop practitioners assessments of the children and to ensure that the level of childcare is both professional and to a very high standard.
  • To undertake and be involved in your own performance reviews for all team members on an annual basis ensuring feedback on performance is given at regular intervals throughout the year.

  • Communicate effectively with your team, stake holders on a timely basis ensuring robust systems exist so that team and stake holders feel informed through differing means. 
  • To comply and take responsibility for risk management and health and safety in the workplace to include carrying out risk assessments audits. 
  • To ensure that all relevant practitioners including self is certificated in Early Years First Aid 3 yearly.
  • To ensure practitioners planning of trips and external events is appropriately and safely undertaken, including risk assessments, guardian/parent approval, emergency plans etc.
  • To engage in all physical aspects of the children (i.e. lifting, running, bending, sitting on the floor and small chairs) when asked to cover breaks in the play rooms.
  • To ensure the building and internal fixtures are properly maintained and act accordingly.
  • To maximise the nursery intake, to manage the waiting list, and administer all new child admissions.
  • To ensure that the Nursery is fully staffed in compliance with registration conditions to include managing annual leave, time owing arrangements. To recruit new line practitioners as necessary, including preparation of interviews and carrying them out, complying with the Trust Safer Recruitment procedures and safer recruitment.
  • To ensure all relevant practitioners including self is certificated in safeguarding lead and refreshed as per requirements 
  • To ensure that all practitioners including self is trained in safeguarding children three yearly and refreshed
  • To be principle Safeguarding children and Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator. 
  • To liaise with Early Years, OFSTED, the Safeguarding Team, Environmental Health, Various Trust Staff, Colleges, and any other relevant external agencies. This is to include implementation of any requirements.
  • To lead various meetings with practitioners and parents alike.
  • To promote the principles of Improving Lives amongst you team ensuring fairness and equity. 
  • To keep all appropriate records and ensure confidentiality of practitioners, children (and family) personal files. Not to disclose any information unless it is within the context of a professional matter and professional agencies.
  • To be able to demonstrate computer use, including MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, Intranet, and Email.
  • To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which he/she/they works.

  • To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager which are commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
