Specialist Community Paediatric Dietitian

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paediatric Dietitian to join our expanding team of Paediatric Dietitians and Assistants to deliver the dietetic service to the children and young people on our caseload. 

The service is provided in a variety of settings including community hospital clinics, special schools, child development centre and patients own homes. 

Your caseload will be varied and include allergy, autism, nutrition support and enteral feeding.  As part of your role, you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical leadership skills; you will provide supervision to the band 6 dietitians, dietetic assistant practitioners and dietetic assistants and undertake project work to help to develop the service.   You will regularly be required to travel therefore, access to a car for work purposes is essential.

You will need excellent communication skills to establish and maintain close working relationships with all relevant healthcare professionals and associated organisations to ensure multidisciplinary care that is of a high standard. 

In addition to this you will have the opportunity to plan and deliver training to other professionals from a variety of backgrounds e.g. health, education, and social services.

The Specialist Community Paediatric Dietitian will be responsible for the integration and provision of a comprehensive and quality dietetic service for all infants and children across the paediatric range (0-19 years) within South Staffordshire and East Staffordshire area for Home Enteral Feeding, in accordance with the Service Specification.  

The post holder will:

·       Be responsible for a caseload of children with complex feeding difficulties

·       Be responsible for a caseload of children on home enteral feeding, including those living in East Staffordshire.

·       Use expert knowledge and experience to educate and support patients and their carers regarding their dietary management at home.

·       Provide a dietetic service to children and their parents/carers attending out patients in a variety of settings, including: health centres, community hospitals, Special Schools and own home.

·       Provide specialist dietetic knowledge into multidisciplinary feeding clinics.  

·       Provide supervision and support the band 6 dietitians, dietetic assistant practitioner and dietetic assistants.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Approved Dietetic Degree
  • Registered with Health Professionals Council, working with the HCPC Code of Conduct
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses up to Masters degree or equivalent

Training

  • Evidence of attending BDA Paediatric Course – modules 1 and 2 or relevant clinic experience.
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to Paediatric Dietetics.

Experience

  • Experience of managing a complex Dietetic caseload
  • Experience of providing staff supervision
  • Experience of Multidisciplinary working

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding in the field of paediatric dietetics, including that of enteral feeding, allergies, feeding difficulties and Autism.
  • Demonstrate recent working experience of all aspects of enteral feeding, including the use of enteral feeding equipment, knowledge of different types of feeding tubes, types of feed available and their application.
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge in problem solving e.g. problems with feeding tubes, feeding pumps
  • Demonstrate experience and knowledge of resolving some of the more common patient related problems with enteral feeding e.g. gut motility, drug nutrient interactions.
  • Knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines e.g. Department of Health documents, National clinical guidelines and application to Dietetic practice.
