Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Histology Office Senior Administrator post within the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS).  The primary location will be Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will oversee the delivery of a comprehensive, efficient and effective administration service within the Histology Office to support the NMCPS. They will be responsible for ensuring that systems are in place so the consultants are alerted to outstanding work, cases are drawn to their attention and ensuring that slides are available to facilitate reporting. The post holder will be expected to respond to enquiries regarding cancer diagnostic wait and breach enquiries. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective co-ordination of slides and Histology reports for the multi-disciplinary team meetings. The post holder will be expected to provide support and cover for the Operational Services Manager – Histology Office.

  • Working closely with the Operational Services Manager – Histology Office the post holder will undertake day to day supervision of the Histology administration team, to include; allocation of work; rotas: training and development.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent to include English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent.
  • OCR equivalent in working with Excel, Power point, Access and Outlook (or equivalent software).
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ in Business Administration or Customer care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of staff supervision
  • Experience of organising & supervising office workflow
  • Experienced in the use Microsoft Office software including electronic diary management.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in use of electronic patient information systems

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills and able to work to deadlines
  • Ability to solve problems on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Excellent team working skills including assisting and covering the work of other team members as appropriate
  • Ability to collate information and demonstrate effective systems for accurate recording both manually and electronically.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the NHS
  • Awareness the Histology and the cancer pathway
