We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Psychologist to join our team at the Sutherland Centre in Stoke-on Trent. The post is 12 months fixed term and provides an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative, developing and fast paced adult community mental health service. We are developing our teams and improving our offer of psychological therapies for those with complex mental health difficulties. As a Trust we are embedding new clinical pathways which puts us in a great position to support team members in pursuing specific areas of interest such as evidence-based interventions for psychosis or complex trauma.
On appointment, you will be a core and valued part of a multi-disciplinary team, supported by a Principal Clinical Psychologist, alongside other psychology and therapy colleagues. There are opportunities to develop your clinical skills in a range of group and individual interventions such as CBT, CFT and CAT. In addition, the role will involves working closely with the wider MDT to develop psychological mindedness within the team and support others to develop psychological skills and knowledge. You will have the opportunity to receive excellent supervision and there are a range of CPD opportunities to enable you to develop further skills in psychological models and team working.
We are supportive of flexible working and would welcome applications from those wishing to blend time at the office with remote working.
Main duties of the job
We provide access to specialist supervision groups and interest groups in various models (CAT, CFT, EMDR). As such, there is excellent support for continuing professional development, additional peer supervision and participation in quality innovations, research, and audit. We have strong links with the local Clinical Psychology training course at Staffordshire University and host trainees on placement in the team.
The successful candidate will:
Provide specialist psychological assessment of adults with complex mental health difficulties utilising information from a broad range of structured psychometric and semi-structured clinical To integrate this information into a psychological formulation of the client and his/her psychosocial environment, drawing on a range of psychological theoretical perspectives.
Provide psychological assessment, formulation and intervention to individuals and groups in a Community Mental Health Team
Undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a number of psychological models and employing a range of To make decisions about treatment options taking into account highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under the care of the Community Mental Health Team - integrating the contribution of other professionals on the basis of client
To take substantial professional responsibility and exercise autonomous judgement with regard to his/her professional
To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of service users and their families and/or
To contribute highly specialist psychological advice and consultation to the multi-disciplinary formulation of appropriate therapeutic approaches or intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other
To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant clients and to provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary
To consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and/or families of service
Person specification
Qualification
Essential criteria
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
Experience

- Experience of working effectively as a qualified clinical psychologist with adults with complex mental health needs
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Doctoral level knowledge of Theoretical and applied knowledge of psychological approaches to complex mental health difficulties including specialised psychological assessments and interventions for service users with personality disorder and complex trauma.
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
