Job overview

"In Step On, we have an exciting 12-month opportunity to cover maternity leave for an enthusiastic and motivated Individual Placement and Support (IPS) worker. The role will be based across Staffordshire, supporting the Step On team within North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust and Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust. The role will support the service to enhance their fidelity status, working as an IPS supervisor and the successful candidate must have relevant experience working within an IPS framework. You will be expected to travel to Step On bases across the county and support the team to develop their IPS pathways in line with fidelity and mental health transformation. You will be supported within the role through regular supervision and will engage in regular leadership meetings to guide your practice.  

A presentation will be required as part of the interview process. If you are an internal candidate this role can be a secondment opportunity, agreement from your manager is required. "

Main duties of the job

  • Engaging with IPS Grow to complete a guided self-assessment fidelity review and supporting the team leaders to embed positive change to increase fidelity scores of the IPS model. 

  • Develop the service to achieve the IPS quality markers for ‘integration’ and ‘employer engagement’. 

  • Deliver IPS training and workshops to the team focusing on the quality markers. 

  • Support the team leaders to implement IPS transformation as guided by IPS expansion.   

  • Facilitate in-field mentoring to support individual employment specialists develop their knowledge and confidence of supporting people using the IPS model.  

  • To implement new ideas using creativity and innovation to support service improvements in line with IPS and fidelity.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The IPS Employment Team supervisor will lead Employment Specialists providing supervision, training, mentoring, and role modelling of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) approach, as part of the holistic recovery plan for mental health service users.

They will provide a pivotal role in managing a high-quality service that meets high fidelity standards and delivers positive outcomes for service users.

You will also be required to manage a small caseload of people who have experienced mental health problems and who are unemployed. Working directly with all relevant stakeholders: the service user, primary care staff, clinicians, social prescribers, consultant psychiatrists, employers and partner agencies - you will support the service users on your caseload to gain and retain paid employment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate experience of working in partnership with establishments that provide vocational services
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent industry experience or equivalent in Occupational Therapy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working with people with mental health problems or a similar client group within health, social services or the voluntary sector.
  • Experience of helping people to obtain or keep work.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent written communication skills for writing CVs and applications
  • Excellent verbal skills, negotiation skills and a persuasive style.
