Safeguarding Professional

Band 6

Our award winning trusts recognise that our colleagues are our most valuable resource, we are proud of the excellent levels of service our Trust provides to our service users and the dedication and conscientiousness of our colleagues. With over 10,000 colleagues working for our trusts in a very wide range of services, we aim to provide a supportive, inclusive environment in which our colleagues can thrive.

Job overview

We are looking for a Band 6 Safeguarding Professionals to join the Somerset NHS FT Safeguarding Service.

You will provide safeguarding adults and children advice and support to staff across the Trust as part of the Safeguarding Duty Team.

As part of your role, you will also provide safeguarding supervision and assist in training provision when required.  You will be an essential, core member of the Trust safeguarding service, supported by senior leads, Named professionals and the Safeguarding Duty Team Manager.

You will receive a full and robust induction programme based on your individual needs and will be supported with relevant training as identified during your time in post.

The team is based in County Hall, Taunton where you will spend the majority of your working week, but with the requirement to also provide on-site support at both Musgrove Park Hospital, Yeovil District Hospital and attend other community venues across Somerset.

Main duties of the job

We provide advice, support and supervision to a vast range of Somerset Foundation Trust colleagues across both acute and community services. As part of the team, you will be responding to safeguarding concerns, providing consultation and working alongside both trust colleagues and other agencies to safeguard our service users from abuse or harm.

The role will encompass work with both Safeguarding Adults and Children and a commitment to the ‘Think Family’ and ‘making safeguarding personal’ approach.

Working for our organisation

As an organisation, the NHS offers a wide range of benefits including flexible working, pension contributions, market leading annual leave allowance, career progression, and regular conversations, not to mention our Blue Light Card and NHS exclusive discounts.

The benefits of working in Somerset include the idyllic countryside, with our areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines. You will get to enjoy these perks whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable. You will experience the best of both in Somerset, the countryside and the cosmopolitan - there is truly something for everyone!

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be a dedicated healthcare professional or equivalent (e.g. nurse, social worker, allied health professional, police officer or teacher)

To fulfil the desired skill-mix within the team we are looking for applicants with a background of working within adult or children services with experience and interest in safeguarding, and a demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding legal frameworks including policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be supported in their professional development and competency in dealing with enquiries across the lifespan.

This is fixed term position for a period of 6 months for 37.5 hours per week.
