Job overview

The Wiltshire Autism Diagnostic Service provides complex specialist diagnostic assessment for those suspected of having autism spectrum disorder, and offers post-diagnostic support to autistic clients and their families / carers/ support teams across Wiltshire.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will contribute to a range of activities. Primarily, to provide high quality complex diagnostic assessments for adults suspected of having autism spectrum disorder.

We carry out our assessments according to a NICE gold standard pathway, using tools such as the ADOS, ADI-R, CAT-Q, and DISCO.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. To provide a service to the specified Team including assessment and post diagnostic support to both individuals and groups as appropriate
  2. To assess and offer post diagnostic support to a specialist workload of clients and maintain associated records.
  3. Participate in CPD and other developmental activities
  4. Undertake R & D and clinical audit as required as well as delivering training.
  5. Help in the clinically supervision and support of other staff in team, health and social care staff and students.
  6. To help the team develop sensory integration skills.

Assessor

Essential criteria
  • • Recognised qualification in Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disability Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy
  • • NMC or HPC Registration
  • • Evidence of interest in working with autism and severe and enduring mental illness.
  • • Experience of working in an autism service team or Mental Health Team.
  • • Knowledge of autism assessments and appropriate services

  • • Effective team player with good communication and liaison skills.
  • • Well organised with good administration skills.
  • • Empathy/engagement skills with the client group.
  • • Ability to cope with workload pressure/prioritise workload.
  • • Ability to work independently.

  • • Ability to travel to various venues across Wiltshire
  • • Ability to work both face to face with service users and virtually on video systems
