Job overview
We are looking for Clinical Psychologists or final year Trainee Clinical Psychologists with an interest in clinical health psychology and the impact of experiencing acute and procedural pain and living with chronic pain. You may have experience of working with physical health problems with either children/families or adults, or experience of working in child and adolescent or adult mental health services with a keen interest and desire to apply that knowledge to work in an acute trust.
The postholder will join the Children's Pain Management Service at the Nottingham Children's Hospital (QMC). Children and young people experiencing pain can experience a range of psychological difficulties. Psychological distress can also exacerbate their pain. As a psychologist working in the service, you will provide a specialist clinical psychology service for children/young people to help them better manage psychological distress and obtain better treatment outcomes.
We would welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists, or 3rd Year Trainees due to qualify in 2024.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary Children's Pain Management Team. You will work with children and young people through consultation to staff, direct work and by attending multidisciplinary clinics. Your base will predominantly be at the Children's Hospital QMC campus. You will be part of a welcoming and growing Clinical Psychology Department which incorporates specialisms in Paediatric Psychology, Adult Medical Psychology and Child and Adult Neuropsychology.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completed (or due to complete in 2024) post-graduate doctoral level DClinPsy in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
- Current HCPC registration for Clinical Psychologist (or eligibility to qualify for registration in 2024)
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS/HCPC.
Desirable criteria
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with children and adults with physical health problems, or with children or adults with mental health problems
- Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of carrying out research
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in paediatric psychology or adult clinical health psychology
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
- Skills in providing consultation & supervision to other professional and non-professional groups
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies or assessment methodologies
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group
Analytical and Judgement skills
Essential criteria
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Desirable criteria
- Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for people with long-term health conditions
- Knowledge of complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
- Experience of using qualitative research methods
Planning and organisation skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
- Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations
- Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
Physical Skills and Other
Essential criteria
- Ability to move between a number of locations within the region in a working day
- Up to date immunisations are required (including TB, HepB)

- Ability to work on days to suit the service
