Part time 0.6 wte working within the Community Intensive Home Treatment Team. Are you passionate about working with Older People? Are you able to work flexibly and holistically in a caring and patient-centred environment? We have an exciting opportunity for a physiotherapist within the Mental Health Services for Older People Directorate who has these values.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust.  This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period.  This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust.  This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

Mansfield and Ashfield Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT)

The IHTT  provide community-based multi-disciplinary assessments and treatments for people of any age suffering from dementia and those people over the age of 65 years who are experiencing mental health problems, as well as supporting their carers.

Having a positive attitude towards working with people with mental health problems is essential. It is not essential to have worked in this environment previously - there will be opportunity to grow and expand your mental health skills being supported by dedicated senior staff including a Physiotherapy Clinical Specialist.

Role of Physiotherapy in the community

  • To work within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Falls risk assessment and implementing plans to decrease risk of falling.
  • Assessment of functional mobility.
  • Completing home visits.
  • Assessing the requirement for mobility aids.
  • Advise on ways to increase stamina/exercise tolerance/fitness.
  • Formulating and implementing treatment plans.
  • Assessment and treatment of specific musculoskeletal complaints.
  • Assessment and treatment/management of physical problems related to neurological conditions.
  • Assessment and treatment/management of acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • To encourage and facilitate regular physical activity to benefit physical and mental health and well-being.
  • To refer to other services as appropriate.

What makes this position unique?

A rare opportunity within physiotherapy to spend time with and build therapeutic relationships with service users.

Scope to use your transferable skills to provide assessments and interventions in relation to:

  • Falls
  • Mobility and transfers
  • Specialist assessments including musculoskeletal, neuro, respiratory, pain
  • Promoting physical activity
  • Use of relaxation techniques and massage
