Applications are invited for Consultant in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery with University hospitals of Northamptonshire. Applicants should be well trained in general ENT surgery and should have developed an interest in Rhinology.

You will help to lead an excellent multi-disciplinary team in a department that has a tradition or promoting innovation and development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Work with colleagues to provide a Consultant led service with the highest standard of care.

Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.

Develop and maintain good working practices with wards, outpatients and the ED departments.

Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues, other departments and primary care.

Offer educational, clinical support and leadership and junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary.

Ensure appropriate information is made available to staff to measure clinical performance and enable meaningful benchmarks to be established and evaluated within your area of responsibility.

Ensure there is a robust process for reviewing the quality of services provided, explaining the causes of success and failure and ensure the highest standards are maintained.

Provide a role model of professional leadership, which underpins the corporate values and behaviours agreed by the organisation, ensuring these are understood and demonstrated by the medical workforce within your area and take remedial action where poor behaviour are demonstrated.

Ensure that junior doctors training conforms to College requirements.

Participate in the appraisal of medical staff within the department in line with the trust's agreed policy

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provisional assessment of Programmed Activities for a whole-time contract of 10 PA split between DCC and SPA. 

The Job Plan will:

  • be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year;
  • cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities;
  • provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external;
  • include personal objectives with details of their link to wider service objectives, and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objective.

All consultants will undergo appraisal and revalidation, comply with the terms and conditions of the organisation and ensure their statutory and mandatory training is current and compliant.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
  • Eligible for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or CCT within 6 months of interview
Desirable criteria
  • On Specialist Register/Accreditation

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience in the management of ENT elective surgery and emergency care
  • Experience with speciality interest in Rhinology
  • Evidence of clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Special interest that complements the Department

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate research. Participate in and implement audits. Be actively involved with Risk Management strategies
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Enquiring, critical approach to work
  • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
