Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join us in the Histopathology laboratory based at York Hospital. We provide a UKAS accredited diagnostic pathology service for the Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service and process over 33,500 cases per annum.  The post is for 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will be HCPC registered and hold the IBMS specialist portfolio in Cellular Pathology.  As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to undertake routine and specialist histopathology including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, special stains, molecular diagnostics, laboratory QC and some dissection work.  In the next twelve months we will have implemented a new LIMS and digital pathology. 

You will possess the knowledge and skill levels enabling you to work both independently; supervising other lab staff as appropriate; and under the supervision of senior biomedical scientists.  You will also play a role in the training and development of scientific staff.

Candidates without the IBMS Specialist Portfolio will not be considered for interview.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science accredited by the IBMS or equivalent.
  • Registration with the HCPC
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD
Desirable criteria
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a Cellular Pathology Department
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of IQC and EQA
