Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work within the Dispensary and Medicines Management teams as a Senior Pharmacy Assistant.  This is a permanent position, based on the Scarborough site, for 37.5 hours per week.

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.  You must be committed to providing a high-quality patient focused service and be able to adapt to changing demands. 

 

Main duties of the job

During the dispensary rotation, you will dispense medicines for in-patients, out-patients and for patients due to be discharged.

Whilst working on the wards, you will order patient specific medication under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician and facilitate the  discharge service.

You will also complete ward stock top-ups and support other operational aspects of the service as requested by your line manager.

The successful applicant will need to be able to demonstrate good organisational ability, be able to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Attention to detail is essential.

Working hours will be between 9.00am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday, specific work pattern to be discussed with the successful candidate. There is also an expectation for weekend and bank holiday work, this is organised on a rota basis.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • QCF level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services – to include units relevant to post. You must have proof of qualifications.

Experience & Knowledge Required

Essential criteria
  • Competency training and experience in a specialist area of pharmacy service such as aseptics, stock management, or dispensing. If not already acquired, this must be gained within one year of taking up post.
  • Ability to work to protocols, procedures and SOPs and suggest changes where necessary
Desirable criteria
  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
