An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Operational Leader to manage Anaesthetics and Recovery at Ormskirk.
The post holder will be enthusiastic, committed and play a key role in the Senior Theatre Team. Providing expert clinical leadership to a specialty team and the theatre service. Take responsibility for Clinical/Operational leadership and the care and management of patients.
Ormskirk Hospital Operating Department consists of 8 operating theatres, plus emergency response team. Southport Hospital Operating Department consists of 5 operating theatres.

Candidates MUST be able to demonstrate:
- Effective leadership, organisational, communication, negotiation and management skills whilst ensuring a safe patient experience
- How they achieve the delivery of a safe, cost effective clinical care service
- Their involvement in reporting incidents, the development and implementation of action plans and provide evidence of shared learning
- Their experience in service development and change management that have had a positive impact on the patient’s journey is a key requisite for this role
- Their knowledge of the procurement service and the preparation/management of specialist complex medical and surgical equipment
The post holder will:
Have advanced Skills and knowledge in the management and 24hr delivery of the following specialties: Trauma and Orthopaedics, General/Emergency Surgery, Anaesthetics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Ear Nose and Throat, Spinal, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Post-Operative Recovery.
Act as a resource to empower theatre team leaders and their staff to maintain high standards of patient care, ensuring a safe, efficient environment for all patients undergoing surgery.
Support the Theatre Matron in the achievement of department objectives.
Applicants must be registered with the NMC or HCPC must have experience within the Theatre/Recovery or Critical Care environment.

KEY DUTIES
Be responsible for the provision of 24-hour management ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources to provide specialty services.
To ensure management support of any required development of clinical teams is developed, implemented and evaluated.
Manage key operational aspects of theatres and provide support and advice on all matters in conjunction with Theatre Manager & Theatre Matron.
To establish excellent working relationships with all service users and actively encourage and promote joint working in the pursuit of continuous service improvement.
To be responsible for the effective management of financial resources.
Be responsible for the delivery of departmental targets through effective action planning.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure personal, professional knowledge and clinical competencies as required to maintain NMC/HCPC registration
Promote a culture of training, development and evidence-based research in the pursuit of clinical excellence.
To manage the continued development of clinical best practices within theatres.
Support the Theatre Operational Manager in implementing appropriate actions in response to complaints or comments by patients and/or service users.
To manage Health and Safety Act within the theatre operational environment and ensure that all equipment and working practices within theatres comply with Health & Safety and other statutory requirements.
To maintain and improve quality standards in all areas of service provision through continued monitoring and review.
To ensure that the theatre teams receive sufficient support in order to initiate appropriate actions in response to DATIX reports and resultant action plans.
Initiate and undertake risk assessments to identify potential risks to patients and staff producing action plans as necessary.
To manage the implementation, review and compliance with Trust and Local policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure that the recording of patient care is comprehensive, concise and in line with the NMC Record Keeping guidance
To maintain an effective learning environment for all staff, contributing to the training and assessment of staff To act as a role model and expert practitioner, providing support and guidance to nursing staff
To participate in the annual performance review of identified staff Band 6 and below in order to identify their training and development needs
To participate in an annual performance review to identify the post-holders personal development needs
To personally ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and to maintain a personal record for future registration purposes
To support for the Theatre Operational Manager in achieving clinical and business success for specific area of responsibility.
To ensure that appropriate arrangements exist within the department to manage clinical and non-clinical emergencies within the department.
To evaluate and monitor the service provision, and work in partnership with the Theatre Operational Manager to improve efficiency and utilisation.
To manage the implementation, review and compliance with Trust and Local policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols.
To actively participate in and ensure team and departmental contribution in clinical audit and audit processes. Provide an effective and flexible resource able to respond to changes in service demand.
Contribute to development of theatre business plans.
To manage the planning of recruitment and induction of all grades of staff working in theatres and ensure Trust policies on recruitment and retention are strictly adhered to.
To manage the sickness and absence process, monitor compliance with Trust policy and ensure that accurate records are maintained.
To be responsible for ensuring staff are appraised yearly (minimum) regarding their performance and that training and development needs are identified on a Personal Development Plan are met within agreed time scales.
To manage all aspects of staff discipline and where necessary implement Trust disciplinary procedures to address incidents of misconduct.
To identify, manage those staff failing to meet the required standard of skill and knowledge through the capability process.

- Teaching & Assessing/Mentorship Qualification/ training or equivalent experience
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
