Senior Clinical Fellow

Trosolwg o'r swydd

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Hepatobiliary Surgery at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Liverpool.

The Liver Unit is one of the busiest in the UK performing 150-200 liver resections annually.  The contract is initially offered on a 12-month basis, but shorter or longer time periods will be considered.

The post would be ideally suited to a post CCT or senior fellow looking to gain specialist hepatobiliary surgical experience before applying for a substantive consultant post.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

This post is attached to the Hepatobiliary Surgery Unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, part of the Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust. This post will be attractive to peri/post-CCT individuals (or international equivalent) who require additional specialist training prior to applying for a Consultant position.

Each doctor is expected to assist in the care of all patients in the Unit when required to do so.  Duties include business, post-take and teaching ward rounds, OP clinics, Operating Theatre sessions, research, administrative activity (dictation of summaries, letters, coding etc.) and presentations (M + M, MDT meetings etc.)

The unit performs in the order of 150-200 major hepatobiliary and sarcoma resections annually, including minimally invasive, robotic and open surgery.  The post will provide exposure to this specialist area of practice.

Gweithio i'n sefydliad

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The merger provides an opportunity to reconfigure services in a way that provides the best healthcare services to the city and improves the quality of care and health outcomes that patients experience.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

It serves a core population of around 630,000 people across Merseyside as well as providing a range of highly specialist services to a catchment area of more than two million people in the North West region and beyond.

Research/Audit - This unit has a strong research pedigree, having led on many international research trials that have defined current standards in cancer and hepatobiliary care worldwide.  As such it would be expected that any candidate actively contributes to the wealth of research opportunities provided. Such activity is well supported by the academic pedigree within the unit.

Teaching - The Hospital and Unit are teaching units.  There are a number of medical students attached to the unit, and the junior doctors staffing the unit are typically academic track foundation doctors.  As such there is an expectation of a degree of teaching provision by the successful candidate.
