Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join South Manchester Community Respiratory Team. We are a multidisciplinary team of nurses and physiotherapists delivering a range of services for people with COPD in the community and at Wythenshawe Hospital across 7 days.

The post holder will work both in the hospital and in the community providing acute home visits, pulmonary rehabilitation, COPD/asthma care bundles and oxygen assessments. Assessment and treatment within this specialist service includes patients with COPD, ILD, bronchiectasis as well as disease overlap/mixed respiratory diseases. You will be required to work autonomously at community locations supported by nursing and physio team leads as well as a respiratory consultant. There are expectations to be involved in service development and education/training of staff and students alike.

Applicants will be expected to develop a sound knowledge of respiratory conditions and treatment and to undertake appropriate specialist training within the post. They will be expected to have an interest in respiratory care and some experience within their current roles that is relevant to the post. All applicants will have excellent communication skills and be able to work autonomously, seeking support as required.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy or equivalent / professional qualification RN/RGN
  • Active HPC registration/NMC pin
  • CPD Portfolio
  • Driving license and access to car
Desirable criteria
  • Related advanced respiratory qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a respiratory care setting especially chronic lung disease, minimum of 6 months
  • Relevant experience at band 5 level for min of 2 years
  • Experience of working as part of an MDT
  • Evidence of delivering teaching and education to staff groups and patients
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of community working and PCT partnership working
  • Experience of service development and evaluation of service standards through clinical audit and research.
  • Experience of performing exercise testing and evaluation of results

IM&T

Essential criteria
  • Aware of applications of IT packages such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint/excel
  • Good knowledge of clinical information systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with current systems (HIVE, EMIS)

Other

Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken a leadership programme
  • Evidence of involvement in change management
  • Understanding a 7 day service working across different sites
