Working in partnership with our service partners, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital  and Princess Royal University Hospital we aim to set the standard for the future of pathology.

 

Job overview

The Service Design Analyst is a key role leading the design and transformation of the Southeast London Pathology network.

You will work closely with Transformation Leads, Project Managers and Senior Managers across the organisation covering Laboratories, Estates, Logistics and IT. Confirming how the future laboratories will function, what equipment is required and how it will be used.

In addition to working with senior manager across Synnovis, Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, Princess Royal University Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals and local CCG networks. A key part of the role will also require engaging with key external suppliers, ensuring the equipment, consumables and services are delivered to deadlines and are fit for purpose.

A large amount of job satisfaction is gained from being able to lead on designing new laboratory spaces at an early stage right though to implementation. This involves creating floor plans, process maps, workflow diagrams, resource and capacity assessments.

Main duties of the job

Key duties;

  • Writing operational process maps and designing the laboratory and equipment around the process.
  • Creating laboratory floor plans and layouts.
  • Leading design with operational colleagues at all levels to ensure they are engaged throughout the design process and the service is optimised for the teams.
  • Creating a simulation model of the future laboratories, logistics and consumable management to assess resource and capacity whilst identifying any bottle necks ahead of go-live.
  • Recording, escalating and mitigating risks.
  • Writing highlight reports.

The role will exposure you to and develop skills in a number of key software used to design such as Visio and Simio.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working under the direction of the Design, Development of Operations Manager and the Director of Design and Development of Operations, to lead on the transformation of Synnovis in line with SYNLAB UK and Ireland Target Operating Model and Vision for the future pathology network.

  • Lead individual projects to identify and deliver change and improvements in services.
  • Create and monitor action logs a risk registers.
  • Analyser and report on complex data.
  • Outline and confirm a comprehensive future test lists including test name, test code, analyser, method, sample requirements, turnaround times and other required information to aid project planning.
  • Create future state process maps and workflows for all services and laboratories.
  • Resource and capacity modelling for the future state.
  • Create laboratory space assessments, block diagrams and floor plans.
  • Liaising with operational management to ensure that the details are correct and signed off by key stakeholders.
  • Record project design assumptions, to ensure all amendments adhere to a change control process and assessing and recording the impact of any change.
  • Highlight operational risks and record mitigation strategy.
  • To challenge the status quo and contribute to the growth and development of Synnovis.
  • Write and present reports.
  • Taking part in team meetings in person and via teams.
  • Key stakeholder management.
  • Chairing meeting with senior managers across Synnovis and SYNLAB Group.

Currently our offices are based in Paris Garden, Blackfriars SE1, or Francis House, Southwark SE1 however at present these are temporary locations. We expect to move to new offices in the Hub building located in Blackfriars in 2024.

Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.

The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.

The partnership provides diagnostics, testing and digital pathology for hospital trusts, GP services and other healthcare providers.

Synnovis’ Corporate HQ; housing our Finance, Procurement, HR, Service Improvement and Business Development teams.  We have a relaxed, but professional atmosphere with monthly corporate updates to keep you informed on our progress. Situated 5 minutes from Southwark station you will have easy access to the vibrant South Bank and local amenities.

Essential criteria
  • BSc or equivalent
  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of pathology services
  • Knowledge of Pathology testing and the requirements for specimens handling and investigation.
  • Experience process outlining and improving processes in a laboratory setting
  • Proven experience writing reports and delivering presentations
  • Experience in carrying out projects to deliver change or improvement in services
  • Ability to influence and persuade through personal credibility, integrity, and professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn and adaptable to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to adopt a pragmatic approach to problem solving – especially when constraints prohibit the pursuance of ideal solutions
Desirable criteria
  • Proven ability in operating and influencing in a complex and diverse stakeholder environment
  • Experience creating process maps in Visio, igraphix or equivalent software
  • Experience creating floor plans and room layout diagrams to scale in Visio or equivalent software
  • Experience simulating processes to model and test systems in Simio or equivalent software
