Senior Clinical Fellow – General Surgery

The Surgical Department, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich requires a Senior Clinical Fellow (StR3+ level) to commence as soon as possible for a period of six months in the first instance. The post offers good experience in a busy surgical department but is NOT a recognised training post. This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is a new Trust formed on 1st October 2013, following the merger of Lewisham Healthcare NHS Trust and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Greenwich. We are a committed multi- professional team who provide much-valued hospital and community services as one organisation. We offer medical, surgical and emergency services to local residents, and also provide a range of specialist services for South East London and beyond. Our community health professionals work closely with the hospital and GPs to provide support to adults and children in their own homes and across a range of health centres and clinics.

It would be desirable if applicants have completed appropriate experience in general surgery in the UK.

The general surgical department currently consists of nine Consultants, 2 Associate Specialists, eleven Specialist Registrars (7 deanery training grades and 4 trust grades), one Trust Clinical Fellow, one CT1, two FY2’s and eight FY1’s. These posts will be involved in the provision of general surgical services, including the following sub-specialties: upper GI, colorectal and breast.

Primarily you will be supporting the Directorate of Surgery in providing 24-hour on call services, as well as helping to support the unit as a whole.

There is an extensive postgraduate programme to which the successful candidate will be expected to contribute.

Salary is paid on the MN37 StR pay scale plus an on-call allowance and London Weighting of £2,162 per annum whole time.
