Children and Young People’s Dietetic assistant - Band 4 - Merton

Merton Integrated Complex Needs Team – Community Services

26 hours per week 

We are looking for a positive, self-motivated Paediatric Dietetic assistant with an interest in providing outstanding clinical care across Merton community clinics. 

Your role will be to provide advice and treatment to children and young people with a range of needs including allergies and intolerances, nutrition and hydration advice, faltering growth with/ without reflux, weight management and fussy eating. The role will include work with children and young people and their carers under the guidance of the senior dietician.

You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Merton Community services and with outside services to deliver Paediatric dietetics support with the dieticians meeting the needs of children and young people across Merton. You will have had experience of working with children in the community or similar and your communication and team working skills will be excellent.

We are committed to professional development and evidence-based practice, offering regular in-service training and peer group / one to one supervision. Internal and external courses are supported. You will be required to have at least 2 years’ experience working within the community with appropriate transferable skills working with children, administrative duties, and be willing to further develop clinical skills for a busy community caseload.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

•    To provide administrative assistance and support across the paediatric nutrition and dietetic service in Merton to both community and home enteral feeding dietetic services.
•    To work independently under the supervision of specialist paediatric dietitians to undertake clinical and administrative tasks and be responsible for own delegated workload whilst being flexible to the needs of the service.  
•    To be responsible for inputting clinical activity data into relevant IT system and generating reports as required.   
•    To work within an agreed framework for dealing with routine and urgent clinical problems, face to face or by telephone, seeking guidance from dietitians to agree action outside framework.
•    To communicate in an effective and timely way with accurate message taking from clients, carers, dietitians and other healthcare professionals, with clear record keeping and dissemination of information to relevant staff.
•    To support dietitians in delivery of training activities, as required.
•    To participate in clinical governance activities within the Nutrition and Dietetics Service.
