Do you want to join an award-winning department that puts clinical pharmacists at the forefront of medicines optimisation and patient care?

The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across North East London.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic pharmacist to join the renal pharmacy team at Barts Health. You will work closely with medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine policies and procedures wherever appropriate.

You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.

The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as the Specialist Pharmacist in renal and urology to deliver patient focused, quality care, based at the Royal London Hospital.

They will promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing of medicines within renal and urology to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety.

The job description is not intended to be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after consultation with the post-holder. The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the 
duration of their contract, which may entail travel and working at a different hospital site.

Qualifications

  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent

  • Independent prescribing qualification

Experience

  • Post-registration experience in an acute hospital based clinical post.
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care
  • Experience of undertaking research, quality improvement or audit projects

  • Experience of leading or supervising practice research or audit
  • Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
  • Experience of being involved in managing medication incidents
  • Expierience managing patients with renal disease

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent
  • Understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management
  • Awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues
  • Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
