Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic pharmacist to join the Hepatology department at Barts Health NHS Trust, to deliver high quality clinical pharmacy services. You will be able to develop your skills and knowledge in the management of hepatology patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. You will also help to develop clinical guidelines and act as a key member of the MDT.

Main duties of the job

 You will assist the Lead Pharmacist for Hepatology in promoting high quality, cost-effective and safe prescribing. The post holder will provide clinical pharmacy support to the Hepatology departments across the Trust.

The post holder will participate in education and training of Pharmacy staff at Bart’s Health and will assist in the provision and development of clinical pharmacy services within the Division.

Essential criteria
  • • Significant post registration hospital experience
  • • Experience of providing a hospital-based service to gastroenterology or hepatology patients at band 7 level
  • • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care
  • • Experience appraising staff and giving feedback
  • • Experience of leading and supervising research, quality improvement or audit projects
  • • Experience of prescribing either in an inpatient or outpatient setting

  • • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • • Sound knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in hepatology at Diploma level or equivalent
  • • Understanding of stock control systems
  • • Understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs of hepatology patients
  • • Thorough understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management
  • • Knowledge and awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to hepatology
  • • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
  • • Knowledge of the law and relevant guidance relating to medicines, pharmacy, rationing decisions in the NHS, Payment by Results and commissioning

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • MPharm or equivalent
  • • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • • Postgraduate Pharmacy Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum postgraduate diploma level)
  • • Independent non-medical prescribing qualification
Desirable criteria
  • • GCP trained in clinical trials
