Job overview

We are looking for motivated and versatile team players to join our Band 6 Occupational Therapy team.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Occupational Therapy; excellent communication skills, plenty of initiative and enthusiasm with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT. 
Within Bart’s we offer a robust teaching and training programme with the opportunity to complete Quality Improvement and Audit projects, we provide a supportive and engaging environment to develop and grow our therapists. Within the Band 6 rotation you will have the opportunity to develop your own supervisory skills through supporting and supervising junior therapists, students and/or therapy support workers.

Please note:
Occupational Therapists within Barts Health are rostered to provide a 7- day service. 

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality occupational therapy interventions to a wide variety of patients including the advanced assessment and treatment of patients, provision of individual and group education and treatment, provision of assistive devices (orthotics) and equipment, minor structural home adaptations and provision of complex disability management and 
advocacy services. 
To participate in the Band 6 rotational scheme working across the Barts Health NHS Trust sites which will require working in a range of ward settings and departments including Acute Assessment Unit, Stroke, Neurosciences, Health Care of the Elderly, Rehabilitation, Medicine and Surgery, Gynae-oncology, Vascular and Amputees, Renal and Hands.

Essential criteria
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational therapy
  • Valid HCPC registration
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy

Experience

  • Experience across core rotations
  • Minimum NHS experience

  • Supervision skills
  • Practice educators training

Essential criteria
  • Ability to risk assess and carry out patient assessment, treatment sessions and discharge
  • Ability to assess and treat cognitive and affective impairment, its impact on function
  • Ability to structure holistic assessment and the OT process within a framework that provides clear clinical reasoning.

  • Specialist clinical skills/interest in terms of sitting and seating
