Consultant Dermatologist

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a district general hospital based approximately 12 miles from central London. the hospital is situated in a beautiful and historic part of the country and lies very close to Richmond Park, Hampton Court Palace and Kempton Park. The hospital supports around 350,000 people in the surrounding area from the boroughs of Kingston, Richmond, Roehampton, Putney, Merton and East Elmbridge.

We have approximately 520 beds and directly employ around 2,700 staff, with another 300 staff employed by contractors but working on behalf of the Trust. We are located on a single site in Kingston upon Thames, but run a number of outpatient clinics in sites across our catchment area including Raynes Park Health Centre, Surbiton Centre for Health, Queen Mary's Roehampton and Teddington Memorial Hospital.

We provide a full range of diagnostic and treatment services and have a national reputation for innovative developments in healthcare, particularly in 'patient-focused' care, day surgery and maternity services.

(Job share would be considered and enquiries for fixed term contracts are welcome)

Applications are invited for a Consultant Dermatologist to join our dynamic and progressive clinical team.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of five Consultant Dermatologists to provide a full range of secondary care Dermatology services to a population of approximately 360, 000.

The service is supported by a team of three highly qualified and experienced senior clinical nurse specialists. A specialist paediatric service and contact dermatitis service are offered and minor operative procedures are carried out within the Outpatient Clinic.

We have strong links with the Plastic Surgeons ENT and ophthalmology who see patients needing more extensive surgery.
Our team of experienced dermatology nurses also run a wide range of outpatient based nurse led, acne, biologic, patch testing, PDT and drug monitoring clinics. PUVA, TLO1 and iontophoresis treatments are also provided under the supervision of the Dermatology nurses and support staff.

The job description will be as flexible as possible so that we can try to accommodate a range of clinics that would interest the successful candidate. It would be expected that one clinic would be needed as a surgical session. Consultants currently operate on their own patients unless they need more extensive surgery. There is potential to accommodate a paediatric clinic which would be desirable.
The dedicated team provides the highest standards of care and enjoys strong links with teaching centres and active participation in the Local Clinical Network.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice, or be eligible for inclusion on the register within six months of the interview date.

Appointment to this 10 PA post is subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of the new consultant contract (2003).There are no on-call duties.

Further conditions have been implemented by the Trust that have been negotiated with the Medical and Dental Local Negotiating Committee. The national salary scale for Consultant appointments will apply (YC72).
