An exciting opportunity has arisen within our service for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated Theatre Sister / Charge Nurse to lead on Trauma and Orthopaedic services to join our friendly dynamic hard-working theatre team.

Our theatre suite at The Hillingdon has 7 theatres and 1 recovery unit. The specialities include robotics, orthopaedics/ trauma, gynaecology, urology, general / vascular and ophthalmic. This department has 24 hour theatre provision including obstetrics.

You will be fully supported in your role by the Theatre Sisters and the Operations Manager for Theatres

A commitment to participate in shift work is essential.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the department/ward; including budget control, clinical governance, staff development.  
Expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable for.

You will be involved in the development & guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery and the implementation of policies, procedures and standards of care relating to the service.  
  • Support key working relationships with all members of the Multi-Professional Team, including Nursing and Medical staff, Allied Health Professionals and Support Workers.
  • Be responsible and accountable, within the Multi-Professional Team, for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of the specialist nursing care for patients undergoing robotic surgery. 
  • Assess, plan and implement patient treatment to provide holistic care in coordination with lead clinician, working across specialism’s i.e. surgery and anaesthetics to deliver holistic care to individual patients

Knowledge and Skills based

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) degree Nursing/ODP Current or equivalent qualification/training/experience, Mentorship Course
  • Minimum of five years recent experience in Theatre settings
  • Knowledge of Professional Codes of Conduct and their implications for practice.
  • Experience / evidence of ongoing professional development and actively participating in teaching and assessing.
  • Excellent leadership, organisational and management skills
  • Excels in using own initiative and decision making ability,
  • Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to deal with and resolve conflict and stressful situations
  • Ability to work as a team member, lead a team effectively, act as role model
  • Experience of audit and bench marking standard setting.
Desirable criteria
  • RCN clinical leadership programme
  • Trauma and Orthopaedic Experience Knowledge of current government and local health initiatives
  • Experience of developing and influencing change within clinical practice
