Deputy Charge Nurse/Deputy Sister

Band 6

Acute Frailty Unit (AFU) on Ward 33 at Leicester Royal Infirmary

We are looking for dynamic enthusiastic Band 6 nurse to work on the Acute Frailty Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The area is a fast paced medical admissions environment where a wealth of experience can be gained. We offer excellent opportunities and support for development. In the next 6 months we will be moving to the new emergency floor where we will have a brand new emergency floor alongside the Emergency Department Acute Medicine Unit and Emergency decisions Unit

The Unit ….

The Acute Frailty Unit is one of the few such units in the country, specialising in the care of the frail elderly. This short stay elderly area benefits from patients receiving care from a multi disciplinary team including Nurses, Geriatricians, Primary Care Co-ordinators, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

The Opportunities ….

The Deputy Sister/Charge nurse role is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills in a fast paced environment

We are looking for a dynamic nurse leader with excellent communication skills who is motivated to provide a high standard of quality nursing care. A keen interest in caring for the acutely unwell medical patients would be desirable. As a ward we perform very well within general audits, Friends and Family tests, receiving very positive responses from our families. We work very closely with a large multi-disciplinary team so excellent communication and negotiating skills are required.

As a deputy I would expect you to act on my behalf, ensuring the ward is run smoothly, effectively and efficiently, maintaining professional standards and the Trusts values. Support and further training opportunities will be given to enable you to successfully carry out this role.

If you are ‘Up for the Challenge’ in joining our senior nurses in leading our team to deliver the planned service developments on Ward 33 then please contact myself or matron for an informal chat / visit.

 Patient Care and feedback …

Patients on the unit benefit from having a specialised discharge planning service ensuring nurses have time to provide excellent nursing care. We have excellent patient feedback in terms of the standard of care, multi disciplinary team working, and the staff. Just a few of the comments are:

“Dedicated and committed doctors and nurses. They are compassionate and caring towards the patients”

“Impressed by the staff and level of care”

“Staff are excellent and made you feel wanted. Thank you all”
