We are looking for a Deputy Team Leader to assist in the management of the day to day resources to enable the support and assistance of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of all aspects of patient care. They will have to maintain a supportive learning environment enabling the team to meet the evolving needs of the service, assist in budgetary and stock control to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service.

The post site is based on the Wrightington site and is for Scrub, however cross site working at Wigan is required as part of the role when service requirements need. 

Evidence of qualifications listed in the person specification will be requested at interview and during compliance checks.

  • Assist in the management of the day to day resources to enable the support and assistance of the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of all aspects of patient care and accept the responsibility and accountability for the performance outcomes.
  • To maintain a supportive learning environment enabling the team to meet the evolving needs of the service, assist in budgetary and stock control to ensure the provision of a high quality and cost effective service.
  • To provide a high standard of patient care and skilled expert assistance in all specialities and areas as required.
  • Act as an ambassador for the department in professional settings.
  •  Be accountable for the standards of practice within the theatre team promoting a professional patient centred approach to care.
  • Acting as a resource of specialist professional knowledge bases for the team, through application of theory in practice.
  • Assisting with promoting the delivery of evidence based patient focused care.
  • Recognises the appropriateness of transferable skills when providing individualised patient care.
  • Identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of care through facilitation of evidence based practice.
  • Participation in managing effectively and clearly identifying what is required of others, setting goals and targets and providing accurate feedback on performance roles and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrating sound leadership skills, principles, which reflect an awareness of local/national policies.

  •  Promoting safe systems, which assure all aspects of risk reduction, compliant with Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the agenda for Clinical Governance. Maintain Clinical and managerial records in accordance with current guidelines ensuring adverse incidents are
    reported to the appropriate person without delay.
  • Maintaining Health and Safety, and Control of Infection in clinical areas in line with trust policies and procedures.
  • Delegate tasks to the team members that reflect their level of competency.
  • Deputise in the absence of the Senior Team Leader when required

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/ODP with current NMC/HCPC registration.
  • Academically accredited post registration theatre scrub / anaesthetic /PACU qualification, as appropriate to role.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

  • Degree/Diploma achievement
  • Surgical First Assistant qualification
  • Vocational assessor qualification -D32/33/A1 award.
  • RCN Leadership or equivalent
  • Management qualification.
  • Mentorship/Teaching Qualification

Experience

  • Extensive perioperative experience in scrub/anaesthetics or post-anaesthetic care, as appropriate to role.
  • Evidence leadership skills/experience.
  • Current teaching and assessment skills.
  • Evidence of implementing change in clinical practice.

  • Evidence of auditing standards of care
  • Proven record of change management
  • Extensive leadership and junior management experience.
  • Competent in the use of intraoperative cell salvage
