Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Physiotherapist to join our well established Band 6 Rotational Scheme. 

A Band 5-6 Development post may be considered for candidates with a minimum of 12 months experience at Band 5 level

This position currently offers rotations through the specialist areas of Critical Care, General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Integrated Care of the Older Person team, Integrated Therapy Team Emergency Department & Frailty, Orthopaedics, MSK, Acute Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, Community Neuro (off site), Rehabilitation at Clifton Hospital (off site).

This full time post (37.5 hours per week) will require you to work across a 7 day period, working weekends on a rota basis.

As a Band 6 clinician you will need to have an enthusiastic, problem solving approach to patient management and be forward thinking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstration of the ability to support other team members are important. The successful candidate will gain experience in assessing and treating a wide variety of clinical conditions and develop managerial skills by teaching and supervising Physiotherapy staff and students.

 

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Physiotherapist you will play a key role in the provision of a high quality physiotherapy service. The employee will be guided and supported through the rotations by clinically specialised staff. The rotations build on previous experience enabling further development of clinical and managerial competencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Working hours will vary dependent upon the specific rotation due to 7 day working and long day working. This may involve working evenings and weekends on a rota basis.
  • You will have supervision within the clinical rotation by the designated clinical lead which may involve an individual physiotherapist or collaboratively by a team of senior practitioners
  • As a Band 6 physiotherapist you will take part in rotational objectives and will be supported via the senior team members as required
  • You will take an active role within the physiotherapy respiratory on-call service.
  • Some rotations will involve travel to community bases and to patients place of residence.

Main duties include the ability to:

  • Work autonomously as part of the related MDT, to practise safely within and adhere to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Code of Members’ Professional Values and Behaviour and The Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) standards of practice, The post holder will be required to comply with all relevant Trust policies and guidelines and undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
  • Hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from a senior physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
  • Supervise, educate and assess the performance of junior physiotherapists, assistants and physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
  • Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and the teams clinical practice within each rotation. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Postgraduate NHS experience in general rotations, including respiratory.
  • Management and development and supervision of students, physiotherapy assistants.
  • Experience of teaching students and assistants
  • Experience of audit process.
  • Experience of service improvement projects
  • Ability to conduct Clinical Supervision sessions with Junior staff and Therapy assistants
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in an On Call Respiratory Service
  • Active participation with In-Service Training
  • Experience of Integrated working
  • Minimum of 12 months post graduate NHS experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree / Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, Including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to the speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
