Advanced Clinical Practitioner in General Surgery

We are seeking to appoint a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP)  from a Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional background, to join our Emergency General Surgical team for a 12-month period.

The role entails working across the Surgical Division including our Surgical Wards, Surgical Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (SAECU) and Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU).  Our departments are supported by General Surgical Consultants, Surgical Registrars, ACPs and Junior Doctors.  Flexible working is required as we cover SAECU/ESU seven days a week.  This role does not entail working night shifts, however weekend day cover is required on a rotational basis every eight weeks.

Interested applicants must be a qualified ACP and possess a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice.  The ability to work as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber is essential therefore applicants must also possess a NMP qualification.

You will be required to assess and diagnose patients presenting with acute surgical presentations whilst devising management plans and implementing  safe, personal and effective care.

You will be required to practice in a professional and self-directed manner with confidence and expertise.

You will be expected to provide strong leadership to both the nursing, medical and surgical teams across all of our departments, ensuring  episodes of patient care are managed thoroughly.

We are continuously looking at ways in which we can improve our services therefore you will be required to partake in audit and research, and quality improvement initiatives within the Surgical Division.

This role can be demanding therefore evidence of effective organisational  and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and flexibility will need to be demonstrated.

  • Safely prescribe treatments in line with national and local guidance and formularies
  • Prepare accurate and concise reports
  • Assist with the management of Trainee ACPs within General Surgery
  • Support junior clinicians to plan and manage episodes of patient care
  • Act as a role model for junior clinicians
  • Practice in an autonomous, professional and self-directed manner
  • Partake in audit and research, attending clinical audit sessions as necessary
  • Partake in learning and educational opportunities in order to meet specific learning requirements

  • Demonstrate flexibility within the role

  • Post-registration clinical experience (or equivalent) normally minimum of 2 years
