Role: Pharmacy Technician (Community Mental Health Services)

Band: 5

Posts available:  1wte (37.5hours/week)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Duddon House and Dane Garth)

Due to a review of the staff skill mix and internal staff movement, we are excited to be able to offer a post for a Pharmacy Technician to work across inpatient and community mental health based in Barrow-in-Furness.  The role offers the opportunity to work amongst various professionals and be a key member of the multidisciplinary team working across these sectors to support seamless transfer of care.  The community team is based at Duddon House and the inpatient unit is Dane Garth in Barrow.

The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with the clinical team, which also includes a Clinical Pharmacist, to address the care needs of patients and service users. The post will also involve close liaison with, patients, carers, primary care, in-patient mental health services and local acute trusts.

There will also be a requirement to ensure safe and effective medicines management processes within the service. This will include compliance with regulatory medicines management standards and implementation of medicines safety alerts. As a valued member of the pharmacy team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to broader Trust initiatives and priorities. Due to the location of various units, an ability and willingness to travel around Trust locations on occasion may be required.

You should be enthusiastic and self -motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to prioritise own workload. You will provide a high level of pharmaceutical care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team. In line with the rest of the trust The Bay will be implementing Clozapine One-Stop clinics and you would be instrumental in the development and delivery of this service.

Your time within the inpatient unit will enable the support and development of your role and your personal development, this will be especially useful for individuals with mental health experience.

The Pharmacy Service within Lancashire and South Cumbria Foundation Trust is a well-established team with a wealth of expertise in both Mental Health and Community services and continues to provide high quality clinical input into all aspects of the health provision delivered by the organisation. Qualifications

  • BTEC or equivalent Pharmacy technician qualification (knowledge of pharmaceutical service procedures obtained through NVQ3, BTEC in pharmaceutical science or equivalent) plus post qualification training and 4 years practical experience working in primary or secondary care
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Knowledge

  • Evidence of experience and knowledge of technical areas of safe and secure handling of medicines and how they relate to medicines policies
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the NHS and the standards relating to the safe and secure handling of medicines such as CQC
  • Evidence of developing and implementing medicines management policies/guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Experience

  • Experience of involvement in training healthcare professionals and other NHS staff both individually and in groups
  • Evidence of sound technical pharmaceutical and clinical knowledge to optimise the safe, effective, cost effective use of medicines
  • Significant post-registration experience working in a range of health settings e.g. primary, secondary, physical health and mental health
