Job overview

Are you looking for a role as a Technician within a friendly, dynamic service with excellent professional leadership and opportunities to develop?

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a background in Equipment Management and/or Computer Technology, who has practical Mechanical Engineering skills along with excellent team working abilities. This post is to support the KM CAT service to provide a multi-disciplinary Specialist Communication Aid Service in Kent and Medway. Our caseload is primarily clients with complex disabilities who have communication difficulties.

The KM CAT service consists of two teams, “Adult” and “Children and Young People” (CYP). The adult team is based in Kent and Canterbury Hospital and the CYP team is based in Ashford.
Both teams work closely and are dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative and pride themselves on the high standard of care they provide to their clients.

You will be working closely with our Healthcare Scientists in Kent and Medway, within the Adult ACAT team, based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

You will be expected to travel within Kent and Medway at times, therefore your own transport is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide support with the equipment management processes, including acceptance testing, preparation for loan, electrical safety, maintenance of returns and stocked equipment, decontaminating equipment, depersonalisation of Windows based or iOS devices and updating the equipment management data base.
  • Provide support with the replacing/repairing of a variety of AAC equipment, including liaising with AAC suppliers/agencies to ensure that replacement/repairs are completed within the service specification.
  • To conduct PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) visits to homes, schools, institutions and clinics throughout Kent and Medway on loaned equipment within the service; to carry out mechanical and electrical safety checks and record findings in the service equipment management data base.
  • Support the Clinical Technologist in providing specialist Rehabilitation Engineering technical support, including mounting of AAC communication devices.
  • To support the Clinical Technologist in the manufacturing/fitting of custom-made equipment using light engineering machinery/hand tools.
  • To support the work of the team within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Working for our organisation

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five
hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Applications for this role should be written by the applicant. If artificial intelligence (AI) programmes are used then the application may be rejected due to this document being an important part of the assessment process. This does not prevent applicants seeking appropriate support with applications should they need to for the purposes of any declared disability.

Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country. Please note we are only able to sponsor candidates on a Skilled Worker Visa applying for roles Band 5 and above.
