Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) has an exciting job opportunity in the Children's Wellbeing Practitioner Service for a qualified Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) or Education Mental Health Practitioner. Your office base will be in Stevenage and you will be expected to cover the North of Hertfordshire. We are looking for a qualified, highly motivated, innovative individual to work in a growing diverse team of Children's Wellbeing Practitioners.

The Children's Wellbeing Practitioner Team comprises of qualified Children's Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs), trainee CWPs, a trainee Senior Wellbeing Practitioner (SWP), CWP Supervisor and the Service Development Lead.

Please note that in order to be considered for this job you need to have completed the Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) or Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) training. In addition, a full valid driving license and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010). You will need business insurance.

Interviews will take place on either 28th May (am) or 30th May 2024 (pm)

The individual recruited to this position will be expected to complete assessments, deliver 1-1 and group interventions and workshops as well as completing triage and attending a range of meetings and community engagement events as necessary. Some evening work will be required for the facilitation of workshops and group work. When delivering evening work you will accumulate Time off in lieu (TOIL) or you can work flexibly on that day.

You will use your previous training as a CWP or EMHP to deliver low level mental health interventions to adolescents and the parents of children presenting with mild-moderate anxiety, low mood and behaviours that challenge. As part of this role you will be expected to triage referrals, complete initial assessments, risk assess, deliver 1-1 and group interventions,  and facilitate workshops.

There will be occasions where you may be asked to work flexibly e.g. running workshops and groups after 5pm and working across more than one area when needed. Therefore, please note it is essential you have a full driving license, have access to a car and that you are confident and comfortable driving.

You will  be expected to work towards set targets and use your initiative to meet the needs of the service and children and young people we serve. This role would suit applicants keen to progress their career as a CWP, working therapeutically with children and families.

Qualifications and Training

  • A postgraduate qualification in Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice
  • Evidence of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties

  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a specific psychological therapy
  • A minimum of a second-class bachelor’s degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant subject (e.g. psychology)
  • Other relevant postgraduate degree

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of providing manualised guided self-help to children and young people and parents/carers
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties may present
  • Experience of completing initial assessments and formulations
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Children policies and procedures
  • Ability to triage and understand which needs the service can best support
  • Experience of working as a Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner or an Education Mental Health Practitioner
