The Critical Care Pharmacy team at UHS are delighted to be able to offer this fantastic opportunity for you to permanently join our dynamic, patient focussed, experienced, highly regarded, consultant led team of specialist critical care pharmacists. 

As a tertiary centre for many specialities, UHS critical care provides a broad range of specialist units and services including neuro, cardiac and general intensive care, as well as surgical high dependency and parenteral nutrition. You will become an essential member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing medicines optimisation at the patient bedside, regularly joining MDT ward rounds, prioritising queries, and caring for complex patients. You will contribute to medication data analysis, preparation of evidence-based guidelines, audit and service evaluation, as well as ongoing review and validation of our Metavision (clinical information system) drug file data. 

Supporting the lead pharmacist with services to our many and varied operating theatres and recoveries will be another interesting part of this role. 

Additionally, we offer opportunities for you to develop and lead your own research and share your findings in peer reviewed journals, under the supervision and guidance of leading experts. 

The team also provides a wide range of teaching to other healthcare professionals over Southampton and the local operational delivery network.

We are looking for an engaged and committed clinical pharmacist who puts the patient at the heart of their clinical work. Ideally, you will have prior clinical knowledge in critical care (level 2&3 patient care) and experience of working in a multi-professional team. Knowledge of antimicrobial optimisation, parenteral nutrition and/or experience of working with theatres will be of advantage. Ideally, you will be a qualified non-medical prescriber or have a willingness to undertake the training. 

We are looking for a team player who will take great pride in the clinical pharmacy service they provide; someone who will strive the be the best, both individually and as part of the team. 

The trust is working towards 7-day working. You will be expected to work one weekend shift every six weeks and one late night per week (5-7pm).

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty.
  • Experience of audit and evaluative work
  • Teaching and tutoring experience
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Experience of implementing change and change management
  • Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.
