We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our Care of The Elderly Team for 9 months covering a maternity leave. 

We are looking for a candidate with specialist skills in this clinical area, as they will be responsible for the delivery of expert therapy, alongside operationally managing the therapy team covering care of the elderly at both Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. 

This Band 7 Clinical Specialist post would be ideal for an experienced band 6 wishing to develop their leadership skills within a supportive service.  You will form an integral part of the senior leadership team and can expect on-going support to further your professional development, through our leadership forum.

Part time applicants will be considered.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

- To deliver therapeutic intervention, acting as a highly specialist clinician within the Care of the elderly team, by using the principles of Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy in an integrated and client-centred way supported by the Therapy Competency Framework. Elderly team team, including supervision, annual appraisal, training and general support.

- To operationally manage Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy staff working within the care of the elderly team team, including supervision, annual appraisal, training and general support.

- As a senior clinical decision maker, support the managerial and operational leadership for the Therapy team in care of the elderly.  To ensure an effective and evidence based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

- To use highly specialist clinical reasoning skills and knowledge to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan working as an autonomous practitioner.  Contribute to the medical diagnosis and management of care of the elderly patients, who may have diverse or complex presentations/multi-pathologies in individual or group therapy session.

- To communicate effectively with patients and carers potentially complex, sensitive or distressing information; in order to provide patient centred care, to encourage self-management, maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of the condition.  Patients may have communication, perceptual or cognitive/understanding difficulties

- To exercise a high degree of professional autonomy, creating and developing protocols/guidelines for the management of patients. To make recommendations regarding national guidelines, initiatives and research.  Lead best practice by the use of validated assessment tools and review of intervention outcomes in order to ensure a high quality evidence based service is provided.

- To be responsible for operational management of the care of the elderly therapy team by monitoring, coordinating own and other caseloads, including reallocation of work during absence and appropriately delegation to junior therapists and support workers.

  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy
  • Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council
  • Experience of working in the NHS in the UK
  • Experience of supervising, appraising, and providing education/training to others
  • Relevant specialist experience in care of the elderly specialty and proven leadership experience.
  • Expert clinical reasoning skills with the ability to provide highly specialised and expert clinical advice to colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team, resolving problems as they arise.
