The DAP joining the HEFT will join an established team of Dietetic Assistants working in the team with dietitians, nurses and admin support to care for patients in the community of Gloucestershire who require enteral feeding at home.

The post holder will be required to drive around the county to provide both dietetic and nursing support to the HEF patients. 

Main duties of the job

These post would be suitable for someone with a foundation degree/Level 4 qualification or equivalent in health/social care or a science, with care experience and an interest in nutrition support. 

Main duties:

- Working across the county of Gloucestershire supporting specialist Dietitians and Enteral Nutrition Nurse Specialists to deliver care to those living at home with feeding tubes.

- Working autonomously with patients in their homes to undertake measurements and provide tube care

- Managing stock levels

- Taking call from patients gathering information and helping to formulate appropriate care plans

- Travelling across the county to provide care and support to those at home who are enterally fed 

 

Working for our organisation

The post holder will be joining a small friendly team of experienced clinicians and will have access and links with dietitians in the wider dietetic department. The post holder will have access to bespoke education and training opportunities, working toward completing the Department DAP Competency Framework whilst working within the British Dietetic Association (BDA) professional Code of Professional Conduct.

The teams is based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and sits within a bustling and friendly Nutrition and Dietetic Department. The successful post holder would be based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Core working hours are 08:30-16:30 Monday to Friday. 

The department has excellent mobile computer facilities and we encourage the use of the flexible working system in place.

Person specification

Qualifications/ Education

Essential criteria
  • Foundation degree/NVQ level 4 or equivalent in health/social care or science.
  • Experience of healthcare/public sector/educational settings
  • Information Technology literate, capable with MS Office and Internet-based applications and an understanding of and experience in application of IT to support clinical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and training experience

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of nutrition and dietetics for the prevention and treatment of disease
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of applied nutrition, food skills and food system management
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of physiology, biochemistry and infection control appropriate to the role
  • Excellent interpersonal, team working & oral communication skills,
  • Write clear, accurate letters, audits and reports in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Understanding of information governance and confidentiality
  • Show they are self-motivated with attention to detail
