An exciting opportunity has arisen for an administrator to join the team in the dialysis unit.

This is a varied, interesting and rewarding role, we are looking for people who are professional, confident, keen and friendly. You will need to be able to communicate with everyone in the MDT, consultants, nurses, secretaries, patients, external agencies, so having excellent communication skills is essential to the role.

The role involves reception duties, use of IT systems generic to DCH such as PAS, vital PAC, careflow, as well as renal specific systems and databases.  Full training will be given.  Experience using Excel and word documents is essential for the role.

You will be required to follow departmental protocols and observe departmental confidentiality and health and safety rules at all times.

Welcoming patients at reception, organising patients notes and appointments, dialysis planning and schedules. 

Help the co-ordination and smooth running of the unit by keeping all documentation up to date and organised, both paperwork and online documentation.

Liaising with MDT regarding patient care. 

Responsible for stock control and ordering. 

Liasing with transport services via phone, portal, TEAMS meetings and e-mail to book, change and allocate correct vehicles for patients attending outpatient dialysis from across Dorset, Somerset and Hampshire.

Liaising with external agencies, such as holiday units when patients are dialysing away from their base; and satellite dialysis units when patients transfer back and forth.

Assist with escalating problems and concerns within the unit by submitting estate, IT job requests and Datix as appropriate.

The dialysis unit is lead by an enthusiastic team, It is a busy unit within Dorset County Hospital. We are part of the regional renal unit for South Somerset and Dorset. We are a progressive team, working together to improve and develop our services in line with need.

Education qualifications and training

  • Educated to GCSE Grade C, including English and Maths
  • NVQ3 or equivalent qualification in relevant subject

Knowledge & Experience

  • Recent previous experience within a comparable role within a customer focused/health care environment
  • Knowledge of administration and/or office procedures
  • Recent previous experience of arranging meetings for others and diary management
  • Previous knowledge or experience of working in an office and/customer care/health care environment, undertaking administrative duties
