Job overview

Locally Employed Doctor (CT1/2 or ST1/2 level equivalent) – Acute Medicine

There are currently excellent opportunities at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust for doctors wishing to enhance their CV, prior to either Core Training or Specialty Training applications. We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our clinical team in Acute Medicine. There are opportunities to undertake a diverse range of clinical work and these posts will be invaluable for those looking to gain more medical experience prior to undertaking their next training post.

All post will have on-call commitments at CT level.

The post(s) are available from August 2024 to August 2025 and are based at Torbay Hospital. The post(s) hold the potential to be extended beyond the current end date of August 2025.

As one of the first organisations in the country to bring together the provision of acute and community health and social care, we are the ideal place to test fresh ideas and to be part of real change.

The Trust has a great reputation for education and training, supported by feedback from Health Education England, working across the South West. We are leaders in innovation and have been at the forefront of many national service improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include a combination of assessment, investigation and management of the acutely unwell medical patient, from admission to discharge (or placement on a specialty ward).  Duties will also include assessment and care for patients referred to Medicine on our Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and in the Emergency Department. When working on our short stay ward, EAU4, you will present at the daily multidisciplinary board round to assist in patient management and discharge planning.  All team members are expected to take an active part in liaison with patients, their carers and relatives and their healthcare workers in the community.  Every team member has a responsibility to provide accurate discharge information to GPs and community hospitals.

You will be expected to abide by the code set out in the GMC “Good Medical Practice” and to continue to improve on the generic competencies outlined in the Foundation Programme.

Working for our organisation

When we formed our integrated care organisation in October 2015 we became the first Trust in England to join-up hospital and community care with social care. As one organisation, we are working with our partners to improve the way we deliver safe, high-quality health and social care. Learn more about our vision of health and care.

Our purpose is to provide safe, high-quality care and social care at the right time and in the right place to support the people of Torbay and South Devon to live their lives to the full
