Job overview

We have 2 permanent posts and 1 fixed term contract for 12 months available.

The fixed term/secondment post is for 12 months to cover maternity leave and meet the needs of the service.   If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.  

The Non Emergency Patient Care Service (NEPTS) is responsible for providing non-emergency and pre-planned transport, to and from hospitals and treatment centres for patients who have appointments at out-patient clinics, day surgery units, and day centres. The service acts as a vital link between communities and is an important and integral part of the overall package of health care provided by the Ambulance Service in Wales.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be responsible for advance and on the day scheduling for all non emergency patient journeys within a specific geographical area with a high number of patient journeys per area per day, therefore good organisational skills are essential.

The post holder will need to work to specific deadlines, allocate additional or late transport requests quickly and efficiently, whilst demonstrating effective utilisation of available resources.

The role includes updating the scheduled work to include processing on the day amendments and reallocation of patients when required.

The successful candidates will ideally have a good geographical knowledge of the South Wales area.

The post will give you the opportunity to work within an extremely busy and challenging, focussed, supportive team led environment, where issues and challenges need to be dealt with in a calm and efficient manner, co-ordinating and problem solving on a daily basis makes the post both demanding and interesting.

Applicants will be expected to have a good educational standard, and possess good typing and I.T. skills, and ideally be able to demonstrate experience of working in a busy and demanding environment must have a can do attitude.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE grade C or above to include English language and maths, or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • PC software user qualification such as the European Computer Driving Licence
  • NVQ Call Handling Level 2 minimum, facilitated through assessor support and on going in house training or equivalent experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of competent keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NATO radio procedure and phonetic alphabet
  • General understanding of medical terminology

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a similar job role where decisions are based upon an ever changing set of circumstances
