Digital Medicines System Manager

Band 6

Job overview

The Pharmacy Department at Royal Cornwall Hospital is delighted to be able to offer this exciting position in our Digital Medicines team. The award winning RCHT Digital Medicines team is one of the national leaders in digital pharmacy systems and has successfully rolled out our EPMA solution across Cornwall in a unique partnership with our sister Trust.

The Trust is about to embark on the implementation of its new Electronic Patient Record (EPR). This challenging programme is the largest clinical system transformation programme the Trust has undertaken and is key to the Trust’s Strategy and aims to fundamentally transform ways of working.

Main duties of the job

This role will lead the focus on managing and maintaining Digital Medicines systems across Cornwall in support of the Lead Pharmacist for Digital Medicines. The Digital Medicines team will also be working closely with other clinical teams and Cornwall IT Services to implement a new EPR across Cornwall over the next 2 years.

The Royal Cornwall Hospital pharmacy department is a forward thinking and friendly team. We provide an innovative clinical pharmacy service, combining technology and clinical pharmacy expertise. We are a recognised national leader for innovation in fields such as antimicrobial resistance and the adoption of Scan4Safety standards. All these functions are supported by an excellent wholesale dealer supply service, a well-equipped licensed pharmacy technical services unit and the full range of medicines optimisation support services including medicines information, education and training, formulary support and digital medicines. We have also recently had the funding for a new pharmacy department confirmed as part of an exciting investment which includes a new Women’s and Children’s hospital.

This is a fulltime post of 37.5 hours per week, however flexible working and job-share will be considered.

Working for our organisation

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.

We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School.

The Knowledge Spa on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site is the base for medical and nursing as well as ongoing education for health professions in clinical and non-clinical roles.

Keeping at the forefront of medical advances, we are continually developing our clinical services as well as our facilities and are committed to maximising the range of specialist care that can be offered locally. Allied to this is a growing reputation for research and innovation.

Cornwall is a wonderful place to live, offering an excellent quality of life and a truly stunning environment to live in. We have a vision of an integrated Cornwall pharmacy service and will expect our pharmacy staff to work across organisational boundaries to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.
