The Psychology AMH Service is very pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a  full-time fixed-term (12 months) Band 5 Assistant Psychologist position to work in the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team.  The base is in Brynmair, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. The successful applicant will be working alongside other Assistant Psychologists based across the three counties.

The post-holder needs to be able to demonstrate innovation, commitment and enthusiasm for improving psychological needs of people with mental health conditions. They must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team to support the existing service. The CRHTT is a dynamic service that supports those presenting as a risk to themselves or others and the successful applicant will need to demonstrate a sensitivity to client's emotional needs as well as managing their own resilience. Supervision is provided by Consultant Clinical Psychologists.

Applicants must have a recognised upper second class/first honours degree in Psychology and have the Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) with the British Psychological Society. Experience of working with clinical populations would be beneficial. 

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision  to deliver standardised low level interventions to inpatients on the acute psychiatric wards. 

To assist in the administration of questionnaires and the collation of data (psychometrics). 

To undertake protocol-based psychological assessment of clients using psychological tests, including neuropsychological assessments, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care. 

To assist in the formulation and delivery of care and treatment plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problem, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist within settings appropriate to the service. 

Development of clinical reports and correspondence to referrer, for review by supervisor. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

  • Experience in more than one area of work e.g. Adult Mental Health, Older People’s Mental Health
