Job overview

The role of the OOH Operative is multi-faceted and will include Call Handling, Driving, Reception and Health Care duties.

The OOH Service operates a Professional Line where calls are taken from professionals who are with patients i.e. Nursing Homes, Paramedics on scene, hospitals, etc.

In addition to this a Cancer treatment triage line and a Palliative Care line are answered by the OOH Service.

You will be based in Withybush General Hospital in the Urgent Care Centre with a multi-disciplinary team including an OOH Shift Supervisor.

Main duties of the job

The Out of Hours (OOH) service based at Withybush General Hospital runs a Professional Call Handling Line.  This line receives calls for the Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDUHB) from hospitals, nurses, Nursing Homes, Paramedics and other defined disciplines who require urgent clinical support.    The UKONs toolkit is used to receive calls from oncology patients who are currently undergoing treatment and triage these patients to the correct disposition.

The role will include the receiving and recording of calls from community-based health care professionals, ensuring that demographic details are accurately recorded and articulating the concern being reported.

Skills to care training to assist with Health Care duties whilst carrying out the driver/receptionist role will be required by successful candidates.  Those who do not already possess a health care qualification, training will be provided.

Various shifts available including 6.30pm – 11.30pm Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 1pm Saturday, and 5pm – 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.   Shifts will be allocated on a rota basis.  Flexibility is required to cover all shifts when needed, including evening shifts.
