Job overview

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are looking to recruit permanent full time Band 5 dietitians across acute and community services.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board Dietetic service have vacancies for Band 5 dietitians. The post holders have the potential to work across the full spectrum of services. We are looking for enthusiastic graduates wishing to experience a supportive, exciting and varied band 5 career to join our team. 

Starting bases will be either at the University Hospital of Wales, University Hospital Llandough or within community services. Applicant preference will be considered during allocation process. All band 5 roles are rotational and we will aim to provide a varied opportunity for you with the potential to move between community and acute sites if you so wish.

The rotations include the opportunity to work within the acute, community and public health dietetic teams including multidisciplinary Community Resource Teams, community dietetic clinics, home visits, group education, mental health, acute medicine and surgery, with specialties of oncology, gastroenterology, stroke, trauma, spinal, rehabilitation, respiratory medicine, renal medicine and cardiology. 

Main duties of the job

The day to day management of an adult patient caseload within the designated services either Community, University Hospital Llandough or University Hospital of Wales. This includes the support of older adults and enteral feeding. Using evidence-based patient centred principals to assess, plan, implement and evaluate dietetic interventions for patients and maintain associated records.

Contributing to the chronic disease management service including provision of dietetic clinics and group education programmes.

Liaising and working in partnership with the relevant care team on a day to day basis i.e. Care home staff, primary care teams, integrated multidisciplinary teams on wards and the dietetic teams in each service.

Supervision of dietetic assistants and pre-registration student dietitians.

Teaching evidence-based nutrition to patients, healthcare professionals and care home staff as required.

There are opportunities to gain skills in public health dietetics.

You will work within a friendly and highly skilled department and have numerous opportunities for professional and personal development. You will be actively involved in the research, audit and the Quality and Safety agenda of the department and UHB. The service is a major provider of pre-registration dietetic education and the successful candidate will be involved in the delivery of training and education.

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Dietetics or working towards this
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate experience
  • Clinical supervisory skills
  • Member of the BDA/other indemnity insurance

Experience

  • Experience of working with groups
  • Previous experience of university teaching hospital or community through training or post-grad work
  • Previous healthcare experience e.g. DA, HCSW
